Music, Sound, and Silence as Medicine.
Sound healing through the lens of natural harmony and the overtone series.
A masterclass on music and sound, and our relationship to and with it. We’ll bridge the wisdom of nature with modern western music theory to help the modern woman, the healer, the creative, the observer understand vibration as alignment, resonance, and natural expression beyond sound bowls, 432 Hz, notes, and rhythms.
I will touch on basic, fundamental music theory concepts and apply them to daily life as well as concepts frequently discussed in current culture and healing modalities.
To reattune, or retune, ourselves as instruments and conductors or our lives.
“Music is the geometry we experience with their ears. Geometry is the music we experienced with our eyes."
- Robert Edward Grant.
The Sound of Self is a masterclass explore music theory and sound as nature, sacred geometry, medicine, and art. We will explore harmony as a way of life, discussing how sound appears in nature, how to attune to this, and why it matters. Although intonation is a big topic in music conservatories and any classical music study, these ideas are seriously lacking in these settings. This masterclass is suited for classical musicians wanting to deepen their understanding of intonation for their own performance abilities, as well as the sound healers to those purely interested in seeing how we’re all connected through sound and frequencies, wanting to deepen their connection with themselves, and therefore, nature.
I carry natural resonance with the harmonic structure of nature. I am meant to tune others back into harmony. I am here to balance inner and outer worlds, lead from love, and embody the wisdoms of the whole.
Taylor holds her doctorate in musical performance and music theory writing her dissertation on microtonality, diving in to different temperaments, tuning systems, and why there is a deep disconnect with "intonation" in Western Art Music, academia, and the concert halls. She has performed across the United States in venues such as New York’s Lincoln Center and Chicago’s Symphony Center. She has given guest masterclasses at universities as well as having her own lectures during her doctoral degree as sabbatical replacement and teaching assistant.
During her time in academia, her goal was to be a classical orchestral performer with openness to the option teaching at the collegiate level (if it came with the gig). During the pandemic when all auditioned stopped, she had a huge sense of relief, realizing if she never took an audition again she'd be happy. Taylor felt that there was no room for creativity or even art in the performance chair or practice room. She continued to play with regional orchestras, like the Boise Philharmonic, and an adjunct college position with Illinois Wesleyan University, but did not seek music jobs otherwise. Taylor felt (and still feels) a major portion of the classical music field leaves little to no room for creativity or personal thought, and has significantly distanced itself from music as an art.
After having her daughter, she stepped away from the classical performance and academic industries completely. She had become a yoga instructor and established a deep relationship with the practice, deepening the connection with her inner world - falling in love in a whole new way. She soon became the sole parent of her daughter, losing seemingly everything, but mostly herself and any sense of direction, feeling purpose only in motherhood.
Always coming back to music and sound, being exposed to sound baths in the yoga world and her own personal love of music theory, she slowly started putting the pieces back together. Now, here we are.
Welcome.
